Old Childrens Books Worth Some Money

old childrens booksThose old childrens books sitting in that box up in your attic collecting dust might just be worth a pretty penny or two. Classics, such as The Wizard Of Oz, Alice In Wonderland and others depending on when they were printed and what condition they are in could go for a high price. Others are good for the wonderful memories they provide you. Depending on how rare the book is and how badly another collector wants it is a hit or miss game. Ebay is a good place to place your ad if you want to sell. But first go to a site appraising the value of old books such as rarebooks.org or aleph-bet.com.

Government Banning Of Old Childrens Books

old childrens booksThe Federal Government last year passed a law declaring old childrens books 1985 or older, must be banned. The government claims the books published before this year are not safe and contaminated with lead in the ink, dye and paint. Bookstores, merchants and thrift stores could get in big trouble if they are caught selling these items. In fact, you cannot even be caught giving them away! Consignment stores and Goodwill stores have refused to accept old childrens books for fear of being penalized. All this seems pretty riduculous to us and a bit over the top especially since books have not proven to be harmful to children. But what do we know.

Old Children's Books Value

old childrens booksYou cannot put a price on some things. But if you are curious if the old children's books you have packed in a box in your attic might be worth anything then it is best to look into it. The truth is that some are worth quite a bit while others are just worth their sentimental value. It all depends on how rare the book or volume is, the condition it is in and if there is even a market out there interested in it. Of course the author will have a lot to do with its monetary value as well. If the book was written by a prize winning author or illustrated by a very well known artist it would make a difference in its value. Ask your local librarian or look it up on line.

Old Children's Books Worth A Read

old childrens booksSometimes the saying, "they just don't make 'em like they used to" really does have some truth in it. When your children expect you to read them a story they want you to read them a good story. One that will hold their interest and keep them wanting more. There are others who recognize this and know where you and your child are coming from. Online you will find some great bookstores that have classic, old children's books not only worth a read but worth multiple reads and worthy of being in your children's book collection. Go to storybookwoods.typepad.com/storybook and see what they have for you. Many classics you know are there as well as a few that might be 'new' to you.
